Spring is almost here! As we bid adieu to winter and usher in spring, it’s the perfect time to purge, clean and organize. However, all of that cleaning means you probably have a lot of items that are ready to be tossed. Instead of creating landfill waste, there are plenty of ways to de-clutter that help the planet and others in need. Here are some helpful tips for sustainable Spring cleaning.
Charity/Thrift Stores. Second hand stores are a great place to get rid of things you no longer want. As long as they’re in good condition, most items accepted include clothes, shoes, books, toys, pictures, jewelry, and household items. Some even take furniture and small working electrical items as well. Plus you’re giving back to your community!
Animal Shelters. If you’re one to spoil your pets, you may have a few too many chew toys that go unused. So why not donate them to an animal shelter? They also accept a variety of items, like blankets, towels, pillows, cat and dog beds, carriers, toys, and bowls.
Pre-Schools, Playgroups, or Community Centres. If you’re looking to unload toys, art and craft supplies, or even musical instruments, these facilities will typically take them off your hands.
Garage Sale. Having a garage sale is one of the best ways to get rid of anything and everything. Plus you can meet people in the neighbourhood and pocket some extra cash!
Swap Party. Host a party with friends where you can all swap toys, clothes, shoes, even jewelry!
Recycle. As a last resort, you can bring them by our resource facility to be recycled. If you have old electronics and appliances sitting around, we’ve got you covered. Spare coat hangers? We accept those too. From batteries to light bulbs and even scrap wood, we can help you recycle many items that are cluttering up your garage.
